Creatures, or Enemies, in the Dungeon Defenders series primary belong to an evil group lead by "the Old Ones."

Background Lore[]

Dungeon Defenders Prologue[]

Long ago, the parents of the four main heroes locked away forces of the Old One's Army inside Eternia Crystals. One day after their parents left for a long journey, the heroes accidentally released a small portion of this evil back into Etheria. Goblins, orcs, dark elves, dragons and many other Etherian creatures are now on a rampage to release their masters from the crystalline prisons.

Quest for the Lost Eternia Shards[]

A robed figure informs the heroes about a lost Eternia Crystal that broke into four shards. Throughout this new campaign, the heroes encounter new foes of which include four monstrosities that hold each one of the four pieces. If these shards were to recombined, the darkness could be tamed. This particular crystal is a gateway to the Crystalline Dimension, where the heroes' parents and their prisoner resides.

Eternity and Dungeon Defenders II[]

Over the next five years, countless Eternia Crystals across the land are shattered, starting with a demonic thunderstorm observed by the young and legendary heroes together. After protecting the two crystals and defeating a mythical bird in Embermount Volcano, the same shady figure reappears. He is revealed to be "The Harbinger" in DD2 and becomes the main antagonist of said sequel.

Dungeon Defenders: Awakened[]

Following directly after the events of DD2, the new generation of experienced heroes are dropped into a "time rift" by an unknown being, stripping their tangible powers and apparently reversing their age back by five years in the process. However, their memories remain intact. Throughout the remixed campaign, a grandmaster torments them mentally and dark purple rift portals materialize. On The Summit, the silhouette of some unknown deity can be seen in the background after the Ancient Dragon appears. Beginning in Act IV, more never-before-seen foes are encountered.

Bosses[]

Bosses are powerful creatures that are fought at the end of certain Campaign maps and challenge missions. The boss fight begins after the last non-endless wave of regular enemies, "The boss approaches..." message and then a countdown and (usually) a cinematic to introduce the boss (or bosses). The hosting player can skip the cutscene if they so wish.

The wave progress bar of enemies killed is replaced with a thick purple boss health bar, unless the fight consists of multiple boss monsters. During the fight, the non-boss enemies spawn nonstop. Many bosses have percent-based damage reduction regardless of difficulty setting. Some bosses effectively have invisible breakpoints to their health bar. These are intended to limit the amount of damage players can deal to the boss while it is in a vulnerable state (ex: when the Kraken has no tentacles).

Behavior[]

Bosses favor attacking heroes over physical defenses. None of them (excluding the Giant Apprentice) can damage Eternia Crystals. Most boss projectiles ignore Reflection Beams.

Immunities[]

All bosses are immune to: hero and defense knockback, oil, Enrage Auras and movement-impairing effects (stun, slow, webbing, etc).

Most bosses can also see through the Huntress's Invisibility and the Ranger's Invisibility Field.
