In the world of Etheria, there are three Elements: Fire, Lightning and Poison.

Mechanics[]

Some enemies have an Elemental Alignment (also known as Affinity, Immunity or Attunement).

These foes are distinguished by the flames, sparks or toxic bubbles they emit. It adds separate elemental damage to their attacks and makes them immune to any damage and effects of the same element. This renders certain hero weapons, pets and defenses ineffective, unless the enemy's immunity is suppressed. Elementally aligned enemies and defenses feature an icon for their respective elemental alignment next to their health bar (with the exception of summoned minions).

Elemental Weapon and Pet Damage Scaling[]

Most weapons and a few offensive pets have a secondary damage type that is either poison, fire or lightning. Both weapons and pets typically gain more points into this elemental damage stat per upgrade level than their base damage, but (with very few exceptions) does not scale with the user's Hero Damage.

Counters[]

There are three defenses that can either disable or eliminate the elemental alignments of enemies, exposing them to all damage types and any status effects they are not inherently immune to (Gas Traps will never stun Dark Elf Warriors, Skeletons, Spiders, etc.) Strength Drain Auras nullify elements, in addition to lowering the attack power of monsters while inside them. The Magic Blockade 'steals' the alignments from attackers on its front side (and simultaneously all enemies around it in Redux), and the Darkness Trap permanently removes elemental alignments, in addition to blinding the enemies that pass by while active. If none of these options are practical, two attacking towers together with different elements is also effective, since absolutely no enemy can ever be immune to more than one element.

Void Element[]

Redux features a fourth purple void element. At the moment, it only exists as a damage type heroes can deal, specifically from void weapons, Dark Shot and the Baby Old One. Absolutely no enemy is immune to void damage.

Notes[]

  • The Barbarian's Lightning Stance's stun effect is lightning-based. He therefore cannot stun enemies that have a Lightning alignment.
  • Additionally, Harbingers always spawn with a lightning alignment and use lightning attacks, unless at or inside the Tomb of Etheria or Infested Ruins, where they are poison-based instead.
  • The boss of Crystalline Resurgence: Part 2 can only be damaged with elemental weapons and/or pets. That same boss appears again on the final wave of CR 4.
  • The Weapons of Hearts and Fluffy Dragon from beating Valentine missions have their own 'love' damage type which is NOT the same as void.

Trivia[]

  • Void is similar to the fusion element in Dungeon Defenders: Awakened. Both are purple/magenta colored and (currently) absolutely no enemy is immune to either one.
