The Series EV is an additional hero class available as part of the Series EV Hero DLC. She was released for PC on March 29, 2012.

Series EV can equip any two ranged weapons (Apprentice or Huntress) and switch between them at will ([X] key by default). She deals about the same amount of damage with staves as the Apprentice/Adept (but less in Redux comparatively-speaking). However, she deals ~20% less damage with Huntress weapons, compared to the Huntress.

Official Description

Steam Store Page[1]
Assembled long ago by a master mechanic within the depths of Sky City, the Series EV automaton has been powered back to life and is ready for action! By placing down an array of powerful Electronic Beams of varying lengths, EV can decimate enemy forces. The longer the length of the beam the more Defense Units each costs to build.
She can store up to two Guns and Magic Staffs in her memory bank, reproducing their capabilities with her "Assimilable Range Cannon", and can switch between any two such weapons on the fly. Furthermore, EV can consume vast quantities of Mana power to unleash a destructive Proton Charge Blast and project a Holographic Decoy which will attract and confuse enemies before exploding in their faces.

Defenses

Series EV can deploy a host of beams between any two points, or nodes. These can be adjusted in length, with longer lines costing more Defense Units in exchange for more health (HP) and map coverage. Outside the Physical Beam (and SAM Unit in Redux), only Djinn can attack/target EV's defenses.

Proton Beam
Proton Beam (40 Mana and 2-5 DU) - An intense beam that constantly zaps all ground enemies foolish enough to walk along its path. Health depletes as it attacks.
In Redux: Enemies are slowed by up to 50%, until shortly after they step off the beam.
Physical Beam
Physical Beam (30 Mana and 2-5 DU) - A simple but versatile blockade, capable of being adapted to any location. Blocks enemy movement, but not that of friendly heroes.
Reflection Beam
Reflection Beam (20 Mana and 1-3 DU) - Reflects enemy projectiles, taking exactly 25 damage per projectile. Unable to block most boss projectiles.
Shock Beam
Shock Beam (55 Mana and 2-6 DU) - A laser trip wire with a delayed detonation that stuns and deals lightning damage to enemies along its length. Has a limited number of charges, similar to Huntress traps.
In Redux: Inflicts percent-based damage to enemies surrounding those who are finished off by the beam directly.
Tower Buff Beam
Tower Buff Beam (70 Mana and 4-6 DU) - A beam which multiplies the effectiveness of other hero defenses along its length or nodes and only goes down when an affected defense does.
SAM Unit Icon
SAM Unit (150 Mana and 8 DU, Redux Only) - An anti-air turret that shoots homing missiles which deal fire damage. Priorities certain enemy types over others, similar to the Deadly Striker Tower.

Abilities

SEV Decoy icon
Holographic Decoy (100 mana, XX-second cooldown) - Projects a holographic replica of EV to attract and fool foes. Explodes upon destruction or detonation, hurting all nearby enemies.
SEV ManaCharge icon
Proton Charge Blast - A devastating short-ranged beam that penetrates through enemies and terrain. It must be charged up first by collecting mana during the toggleable charge state. Attack duration depends on the total amount of mana stored. Damage scales with Hero Damage, Ability2 (this ability's stat) and EV's active weapon.
TeslaBomb icon
Tesla Bomb (100 Mana, Redux Only) - Launches a lightning ball that explodes after a few seconds or on enemy impact, dealing lightning damage to surrounding enemies.

Weapon Skills

Series EV can equip two Apprentice Weapons, Huntress Weapons or one of each. By default, pressing [X] (left joystick on a controller/gamepad) swaps between the two.

Trailer & Usage Guide

In Other Dungeon Defenders Games

Series EV's mechanical model has changed with every installment since the DD2 generation.

Dungeon Defenders II

The automaton upgraded to Series EV2 in the first sequel. She has several powerful attacks that build up heat, including her mighty Proton Charge Blast. If EV2 overheats, she cannot use most of her combat abilities until her arm cannon cools off completely.

Dungeon Defenders Awakened

She is known as Series EV-A in this game. Her new blue-teal and reddish black design appears taller than her old 1.0 incarnation. She can also freely morph her arm cannon into a second hand and back.

In terms of gameplay, EV's walks considerably slower and has no means way of fast travel, aside from rocket boosting via Huntress weapon. Energy Cannon replaces Proton Charge Blast which is a longer ranged attack that is directly fueled by her Ability Mana, rather than a separate reserve tank. However, nerfs to the Monk's Hero Boost and the absence of weapons with overwhelmingly high base damage greatly reduce EV's offensive synergy with him to annihilate bosses.

By-far the biggest change to Series EV from DD1 is her nerfed Buff/Overclock Beams. The range and rate boosts are weaker, defenses only touching a node are no longer buffed, and the maximum lengths for 4- and 5-DU beams are shorter. The removal of several DD1 quirks further tone down their prowess. They are still an invaluable support asset for damage-dealing towers on Nightmare and Massacre though, especially mage towers, Wisp Dens and fused Electric Auras. On the plus side, Overclocks had their base cost reduced from 4 to 3 DU and will not go down if a buffed tower is sold during a Combat Phase. In Rift Mode, fused Overclocks can also improve the durability of walls tremendously.

Trivia

  • The DLC was on sale for $2.99 for a week following its PC release. It is priced (not including sales) at $3.99 USD on Steam.
  • When creating a new Series EV hero, some of her randomly generated names are MegaGirl, Roll, Rush, Beat, and ProtoGirl, all of which are references to characters from the Mega Man series.
  • Her two unlockable "Bounty Hunter" costumes are based on Samus Aran's power suit from the Metroid series.
