The parents are likely to be possessed in some way in the big content DLC that follows up the 4 shards. Though I do hope (and expect) they release the Jester before that, unless her story of origin/birth has something to do with the parents :(
So i've been thinking to add flash sections to the main page. I am curious though. Would you think adding depth to the main page with out making it cluttered would be a good thing? Maybe I will come up with some templates and we can check it out and stuff. I am going to be a lot more active now :)
Sounds good, especially with the Steam Workshop integration coming out, hopefully we'll get a lot of new things to write about (like how Skyrim and Portal 2 wikis have hundreds of pages on how to make content and play it, etc.)
Anyway good timing too, the next 3 weeks or so are my finals for uni over here, so as you might have realised I only check up on the wiki every now and again from my tablet (less time to do content updates for Digests and stuff at the moment sadly).
The problem (I think) with the current front page is that everything below the Content/RSS Feed needs to reduced size-wise. I'm thinking that while all the currently linked info below that line is of vital importance and probably constitutes our most popular visited pages, a lot of random new visitors won't even scroll down that far and just resort to entering what's on their mind in the search bar (well at least that's what I do with the huge wikis with crazy front page layouts.
The Elder Scrolls wiki integrates some kind of subpage menu for each of the individual game titles in the series (http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/The_Elder_Scrolls_Wiki) in addition to the topdown menu. It seems they've decided on this rather than listing content on the very main page, and just settled on filling it with news updates. While I don't think we should be that drastic (lots of content links should be kept on the main page), maybe we could adopt a smilar subpage menu with our biggest topics of interest; DLC, guides, characters, items, etc.. with subpages containing lots of useful links.
I bring up this idea after seeing the effectiveness of adding 'related pages/see also' sections to pages, so this could be adapted even further as the ES wiki kind of did. Just a random suggestion lol ^_^
OKay I so chipped away on some of it today. I will do more later. You will notice the links look like buttons. You can click anywhere on the colored parts to change it. Also I added Template:Portal/Index you should check it out.
I played around with it, and added our current templates to see how it looked like. Of course they're not front-page ready, so please change them as you see fit :)
Yeah, the hero portraits look much better now that they have their own little subpage to display them all. Has the wallpaper changed? It's still the kingdom art on my end, unless the side gradients were a new addition?
Hi Lt, did you change the color scheme? I think the light shade of red doesn't contrast well enough with the white text as opposed to the previous deep dark red. Also I assume we're changing the wallpaper too? :)
Hmm, maybe its an issue with Wikia? In the theme designer, trying to restore the previous scheme made my you appears fine in the preview window but still doesn't change what it appears to be now, poorer contrast and no (white background) on both my desktop and tablets. Weird.
I was thinking the new main page might need a subpage linking to what I've assumed to be our most generally popular pages, such as weapons, armor, accessories, stats, mana, etc.
Yeah I was thinking the same. Not digging the flash? I made the red a little less transparent and I think it makes a difference. I have to play with the location of the image first, but there are one for each class of those backgrounds. Let me know!
Interesting, but yeah the lower transparency looks good. Before on my poorer quality monitors and phone screens the contrast wasnt all that great with white text.
By the way, the one minot pet peeve I have is trying to figure out how to simulate css fixed positing on apple devices, since I pretty much do all my edits on my ipad lol. Don't worry about it, I'll try to figure it out on my own, but no one's really found a definitive answer to it online anyway :)
Indeed, I do like the white borders for constrast, but the table backgrounds are a bit too much on the eyes (seeings as we use a darker page background overall).
Our RSS feed on the main page seems to have been down for the past week. Do you think it's on our end or an issue on Trendy's side? Just a minor problem though :)
Also I got a popup maybe last week from the community wiki stating that they're going to soon move to html5 table formatting, from the looks of it pretty much all our tables are going to fail once they start that. Quite a bit of work to do in the next month :( I'll try to find the link to the announcement.
